Warehouse equipment for use in printing plants

A printing house is another type of business that differs significantly from typical business activities. Printing houses produce posters, business cards, books, and newspapers. It can be either a large advertising publishing house or a small business that prints newspapers or magazines. And whatever it may be, regardless of the monthly volume of printed materials, the printed products need to be stored somewhere until they are sold.

Printing shops—what they’re like

An electric cart with an operator’s seat is the type of equipment typically purchased for a warehouse. But to choose the right cart—given that the range of such equipment is vast and varied—you should base your decision on the products themselves, their monthly volumes, the type of warehouse, and the amount of available space within it.

Printing houses and their types:

Digital printing house – quickly produces small and medium print runs.

Offset printing house – to start printing, several orders must be combined. A single small order is not accepted.

Large-format printing press—prints products such as banners, billboards, and photo backdrops.

Flexographic printing press—prints stickers and labels in large runs. In this case, everything is printed on rolls.

A self-propelled electric cart is suitable for each of the printing shops listed above. This equipment will deliver raw materials to the printing shop and later help transport finished products out of it. Regardless of the volume, the cart will handle the entire load, relieving warehouse staff of heavy physical labor.

Warehouse for printed materials: how to set it up

Books, magazines, roll labels, and large banners—all of these need to be stored properly using appropriate shelving. The specific warehouse space, shelving, and equipment are selected based on the type of printed products. While shelving is relatively straightforward—it’s installed according to the dimensions and specifications of the finished products—warehouse equipment has its own unique requirements.

Types of equipment for printing warehouses:

paper transport carts with side rails—the load capacity of such equipment can range from 1,000 kg to 1,500–2,000 kg. The side rails on the platform prevent the load from sliding or accidentally tipping over during transport;

a cargo cart for leaflets and paper without sides—this equipment allows for the transport of printed materials in boxes tied with ropes or simply large sheets of paper. The absence of sides ensures proper placement of large sheets of paper. The load capacity of such equipment can range from 500 kg to over 2,000 kg;

a large electric pallet truck with a load capacity of up to 4,000 kg—its large, wide platform allows for horizontal loading. This is particularly useful for large banners, photographs, and photo zones. It makes sense to purchase such an electric cart for a large, spacious warehouse, where it will prove its worth;

an electric cart with a lifting mechanism—convenient and practical to use. If there is a need to place goods on the top shelves of racks;

a tricycle—another interesting option for an electric vehicle in a printing plant warehouse. The tricycle has side panels, resembling a tractor. Printed products can be transported on it either in boxes or simply by placing them on the trailer.

The warehouse equipment used at the printing plant must be safe for warehouse staff and must not emit any harmful substances or odors. Printed materials can absorb the unpleasant odor of fuel-powered vehicles, which will affect their quality. Therefore, electric forklifts are the best option for the warehouse, as they are battery-powered.

The trucks themselves, in any configuration, are distinguished by their maneuverability and ease of operation. They move smoothly between warehouse aisles, allowing cargo to be brought close to the racks and placed there. An electric truck operates continuously for many hours, travels on any floor surface, and can also be used outdoors.
